Last week, we announced our title sponsorship of the inaugural Pwani Innovation Week – a consolidated effort by Swahilipot Hub and Cellulant to help create a widespread culture of innovation in the coastal counties of Kenya. Scheduled for December 3 – 7, 2018 in Mombasa, the event is aimed at stimulating the Innovation ecosystem in the Pwani region that consists of; Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River and Taita Taveta.
Cellulant’s Innovate For Pwani Concept Hack
Cellulant shall be running a concept hack for the first time called “Innovate for Pwani”. Innovate for Pwani shall challenge the youth in the 6 Coastal Counties to find creative solutions to everyday real-life issues affecting their community. The teams shall utilize their creativity, resourcefulness and team building skills to come up with solutions to problems in the following key sectors;

- Private sector including SME’s
- Public Sector – both National and County Governments
Objectives of the Concept hack
- Develop an innovative solution to everyday challenges in the Coast.
- Showcase a product/service concept
- Develop a go to market strategy
- Stimulate creative problem solving through collaboration
What is a concept hack?
A concept hack is much like an ide-a-thon on steroids. Participants are asked not only come up with ideas, but to also develop a product or service concept that has the potential to solve for different sectors and can be taken to market. At Innovate For Pwani, the teams shall utilize their creativity, resourcefulness and community building skills to come up with solutions around problems in the provided key sectors;

Application process:
- Enter the competition- expressing interest to join the concept hack – deadline for applications- November 26th
- All shortlisted applicants will be informed by November 28th
- All selected participants meet at Swahilipot on December 1 for kick-off and team assignments

Scoring Metrics
- Originality: Is there an already existing product
- Relevance to the sector chosen
- Readiness to go to market
- Presentation: How well does the team present
Other rules will be added by judges
Concept Hack Rules
- A team of 4 people that will be formed on the first day
- Prizes will be awarded to the winner, 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up.
- Winners can be from any category
- Eligibility
○ Must be from any of the 6 counties listed above within the coastal region
○ Must come up with a solution that has not been presented before
